Celebi vs Tyranitar: Who Wins?

In any Pokémon battle, typing is paramount, and this matchup heavily favors Tyranitar. As a Dark/Rock type, Tyranitar boasts a complete immunity to Celebi's Psychic-type attacks, rendering half of the Mythical Pokémon's offensive arsenal useless. Worse for Celebi, its Psychic typing makes it vulnerable to Tyranitar's powerful Dark-type STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves like Crunch. To top it off, Tyranitar's Sand Stream ability summons a Sandstorm, which will chip away at Celebi's health every turn, putting it on a strict timer.

While the outlook is grim, Celebi isn't entirely without options. Its Grass typing gives it access to super-effective moves against Tyranitar, such as Giga Drain or Energy Ball. A well-timed Giga Drain could deal significant damage while also healing Celebi. However, the core problem remains: Celebi must survive a devastating hit from the much stronger Tyranitar to even get a chance to attack. With its balanced but not exceptionally high defensive stats, and a critical weakness to Dark-type moves, this is an unlikely scenario. While abilities like Natural Cure are useful for status conditions, they offer no protection against a direct knockout from Tyranitar.
